Bootilicious

Don't get freaked about the title, I'm not talking about big butts or Fergie... I'm talking fall boots. The staple, the icon, THE fashion beacon of the fall season. The classic boots have been changed and modernized over the years but one of the growing boot trends are ankle-height booties.

At first I wasn't all rah-rah over ankle boots, but after doing my research and seeing a more diverse range of booties, I think I might just have to hop on the bandwagon with this trend.

(The majority of these boots can be found from J. Crew or Frye Boots... but of course many other retailers and designers have their own ankle boot models.)

Welcome to Summer Camp

Inspired by the Urban Outfitters Blog post about the Best Summer Camp Movies (found here), I thought that I should add and contribute to the list with my own summer favorites. My fav's are a little less campy and with a bit less Bill Murray- but let's be honest, everyone loves Bill Murray so we'll be a bit sad to see him go..

Moonrise Kingdom
Agree 100% with Urban on this one. If you want to get lost on the Island of New Penzance with young lovers,Suzy and Sam, you need to watch this movie! And if the whimsical, far-fetched plot isn't for you, then just obsess over the clothing, cinematography, and musical stylings! If you didn't love the movie, you at least have to give credit to Wes Anderson and the Moonrise crew for the amazing location, costumes, and soundtrack.

The Parent Trap (1998)
Admit it girls, you wanted to be Lindsay Lohan when you were little (now, maybe not so much). The Parent Trap was one of my absolute favorite movies when I was little. Two twins separated near birth and then finding each other at the coolest girls summer camp ever? Sign me up! The trouble and chaos the twins get into throughout the whole movie are hilarious and so badass. This movie will definitely spark a little mayhem in you this summer.

Jaws
If you're easily scared by 1975 robotic sharks, do not read any further. (I don't blame you though, after seeing this when I was little I wouldn't even go swimming in a pool...)Jaws is the classic summer time movie, a little scary but also captures the essence and joy of summer perfectly at the small island community of Amity.

Grease
If you haven't seen Grease, you're living your life wrong. It's probably the best musical movie of all time, set in a time period of awesome cars and bizarre hair do's. And I mean c'mon, there's a song called "Summer Nights" in it.

The Shining
It really shouldn't be a summer movie since the main character goes crazy during a snowstorm and ends up freezing to death... but somehow it is and I always watch this psychological horror during the summer time.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off
My all-time favorite movie. There's just so much awesomeness and youth wrapped into one hilarious movie. I wish I had a real life Ferris Bueller to pull me out of school and dance on parade floats.

The Notebook
I don't want to get all sappy and romantic, but The Notebook truly is one of the best love stories ever. It hasn't made me cry yet, but I know tons of you will sob when you watch this summer romance film. (And bonus, Ryan Gosling shirtless? Yes please!)

The Sandlot
This movie is the essence of being a kid during the hot summers. Its a classic and a popular favorite for many generations. Plus, you learn a lot about growing up while staying true to yourself and your pals.

Addams Family Values
I really don't get why I think that this is such a great movie. My younger brother and I used to watch it over and over and over again. The main reason why it's a summer movie is because the kids, Wednesday and Pugsly, get sent to summer camp and reign terror over their fellow campers and peppy counselors.

Adventureland
The summer of 1987 at a trashy amusement park with a bunch of nobodies. Sounds horrible, right? Well the movie is great. Soul-searching while getting high and trying to find love were never so sarcastically put together until now.

Superbad
You've never seen so much teenage male awkwardness until now. On the hunt for booze to impress the ladies that they love, two best friends (and the infamous McLovin) find themselves in some... uncomfortable situations

(500) Days of Summer
Glances of one romance and its up's and down's. (500) Days of Summer will make you cry, laugh, dance, and find hope for a better Autumn. (Kudos to whoever picked out the awesome soundtrack to this movie.)

Stand By Me
This movie makes you recognize how hilarious and loyal true friendship actually is. An oldie- but definitely a goodie- is one of my family's favorite summer movies. After buying it on DVD years ago, my brother brings it out every year for the entire family to watch again. (Be prepared to laugh until it hurts and cry until you run out of tissues.)

Sixteen Candles
If this doesn't make you realize how much better your own family is, or how you really, really want a romantic boyfriend- then I have nothing more to tell you. Sixteen Candles is the classic Molly Ringwald movie that every girl (and boys- you could definitely learn a few pointers) needs to see.

Midnight in Paris
Ater seeing this, not only did I want to visit Paris more than ever, but I wished I could have lived during the 1920s, or Roaring Twenties as it is so aptly referred to as. (If you're not into the modern day and 1920s mix, don't see the newest adaption of The Great Gatsby.)

The Descendants
The title gives off a weird, maybe scary idea (the first thing I thought was descendants of aliens or something weird) but its actually a really amazing movie about an incredibly relatable family and the struggles they go through. Surprisingly, my brother and I liked this one even more than my parents for some reason though.

Happy summer everyone, catch up on your movies!! Any other movie suggestions or flicks I missed? Comment or email! xxx

Sneak Peek- The Inside Look

So I'm trying to actually accomplish my life goal of one day creating and editing my own fashion magazine! I've started just on Microsoft Word and clipped images from the internet... It's not anything near my goal of a professional, legitimate magazine, but I'm on the right track!

Here are three pages I've slightly worked on so far!
Please comment for suggestions and ideas you may have! Any different perspective is helpful! xox

2013

It's a brand new year! Which means two things: one, time to attempt some resolutions again (and fail), and two, time for a new drop-down bar on the left menu! Yahoo!

Reading over this article on xoJane (http://www.xojane.com/relationships/resolutions-to-live-my-life-by-in-2013-featuring-salt) I decided that I should wanted to share with you my 2013 resolutions.

At my friend's house last night, I asked everyone what their resolutions were going to be. I have to admit, my friends and I are quite boring. The most eccentric resolution came from our friend Mach, his was to "kick ass". I don't know how he's going to kick ass in 2013, but I decided I was going to kick some ass right alongside him. 2013 is going to be my year! 2013 PREPARE TO BE ASS KICKED!!!!

Before I share with you all my deep dark resolutions, I want you to know that I would love to hear about your resolutions and goals as well, or just plans for the new year. My comments rarely get used even though I have a statistic viewer of the visitors of this site, so I KNOW YOU'RE OUT THERE READERS!!!! So comment away, I won't hurt you.

1. Stop biting/picking at my nails

This one is reoccurring every year since I was old enough to know what resolutions were. I have been biting my nails since two or three years old (my mom never fails to point that out to me). And every year I declare that no more will I need to wrap my bleeding cuticles in Barbie band-aids, and every year I end up rubbing nail treatments and creams onto my poor nail buds as if some lotions will end my bad habits.

A+ Life, man (I am the essence of cheesy)
But thanks to a segment on bad habits by Dr. Phil, I think I have finally found some ways to prevent myself from biting and pulling and picking.

2. Reach High Honor Roll grades for the overall school year

(Yes, this one is very boring.) This one is pretty self explanatory-- maintain good grades, work very hard and then at the end of the school year make sure I make High Honor Roll. As I say this I realize I should probably not be blogging and instead preparing for school tomorrow and the last half of the second marking period......

3. Do something reckless

It's vague, but honestly, doing something reckless is a goal of mine this year. If this means something as extreme as bungee jumping, or something smaller, I don't know. And maybe I won't know when it happens either! But I think that if you live and maintain a happy, healthy life, one reckless thing is permitted per year (Isabella Philosophy right there).

4. Maintain a healthy life

This was the first year in my life where I was conscious about my body and aware of the fact that during field hockey season I lost weight and I felt really good about my body. Then, of course, after the fall season ended, I gained weight back again. I'm not saying I am at all fat, I am happy with my body and know that I'm at a good weight for my height, age, and hip ratio (thanks Mom for that lovely gene).

But I also know that everyone can make healthier food choices and exercising plans... so one of my resolutions is basically not to be a pig, don't reach for another piece of bread at the dinner table, and go for runs more often.

5. Do something for ME (professionally)

I know that all of these resolutions are about me, but this one is about my career. And I know that is very presumptuous and far-fetched, but I believe that you're never too young to start shaping your future. (I mean look at freaking Tavi Gevinson-- sophomore in high school, published book, successful online magazine and blog, invited to top runways and fashion shows.)

So this year I want to do something about my life and start my career. I don't know how I'm going to do this but it will happen. I promise.

6. Be more assertive

I can never speak my mind freely or tell people how I really feel, so this year I'm going to work on being more assertive. Putting myself before other people more often. Making myself happy! :)

SO all in all, I am ready to kick 2013's ass and make it the best year for me (until 2014).
I hope you all had a great start to the new year and have many goals to fail at alongside with me!!!

PS-- 2013 is the first year since 1987 to have four different digits. My mom said that 1987 was a great year (I'm a little worried about that but....) so I think that's a good sign.

Dare Yourself (Hot Holiday Trends)

It’s almost the new year!! Make a resolution to break through your shell and become the better YOU! Do things you were afraid to do in 2012, be the person you weren’t.

This year don’t be afraid to sparkle, shimmer, and shine! Wear gold and metallics; make everyone’s eyes fall on you. When you walk by, know that everybody is staring at you! Be the best version of yourself, and cross that threshold through your wardrobe and accessories.
This year incorporate:
-Colors: Gold and metallic colors are a MUST! This holiday season has been proof that gold shimmer has been found on close to everything! Tie in some sparkly skirts, tights, shirts, or even nail polish (thanks to nail expert Deborah Lipman) into your holiday get-ups. Don’t be afraid to be daring!
-Accessories: Shoulder duster earrings tried to become the top trend last year, but didn’t really make it. One year later they’re stealing the show. If you want your earrings to be your statement piece this year, swap out a crazy outfit for something more sleek, elegant, or simple. Pair this with your shoulder dusters and wah-la! You’ve instantly transformed your entire outfit using just two ears.
-Fabrics: Lately I have been seeing lots of mohair and sequins having their fair share of holiday spotlight. Two very opposite fabrics, but creating the same jaw-dropped effect. Mohair skirts or jackets (or even sweater tops- thanks to always fabulous H&M) make the rest of your outfit easy. The mohair piece is your statement, so everything else can just highlight the daringness of your piece. Sequins are another hot holiday trend. Going along with the same idea of mohair.. once you have the statement sequin piece, all else will follow.
Happy Holidays! I hope everyone has an amazing end of their year, and remember: DARE YOURSELF!!!
